About

Emeritus professor of archeology at the University of Lausanne, he was a scientific
collaborator at the Roman Museum in Avenches and a mandated member of the Friborg
State Archaeological Service. His specialization in Roman mural painting led him to defend a
doctoral thesis on a quarter of ancient Avenches and its painted decoration. He has been a
member of the Swiss Institute of Rome, an associate researcher at the CNRS, and an expert
and curator of exhibitions on Roman wall paintings at Swiss sites. He is one of the founders
of Pictoria, a Swiss research group on ancient decoration. He gives lectures and leads tours in
and around Avenches, Geneva, Lausanne, Martigny, Massongex, Pully, Annecy, Arles, Lyon,
Nîmes, Vaison-la-Romaine, Vienna, Tel Aviv, Derecik (Büyükorhan, TR), Naples, Rome,
Calabria, Cyprus, Malta and Sicily. He is currently collaborating on international
archaeological projects, including the study of graffiti on Roman wall paintings in France, in a
quarter of Pompeii (I 8) and in the agora of Smyrna, as a partner in the Lambaesis
Archaeological Program in Algeria since 2015 and, since 2018, director of the project to
study fragmentary paintings in the House of Painters at Work (IX 12) in Pompeii.
