He completed his undergraduate education (1984-1988) at Ankara University, Faculty of Language, History and Geography, Department of Archeology and Art History, Art History Department (Thesis: İnegöl İshak Paşa Kulliye). He completed his master's (1988-1993) (Thesis: Early Ottoman Masonry in 14th Century Bursa Buildings) and PhD (1993-2000) at Ankara University, Social Sciences Institute Art History Department (Thesis: Existing Conservation in Kayseri Seljuk Period Tombs). Determination of Status) completed. Şener received the title of Associate Professor in the field of Turkish-Islamic Art (with the keywords of Conservation, Renovation, Repair) in 2008.

Şener started his working life as a Specialist in Ankara University, Başkent Vocational School, Restoration and Conservation Program in 1991. Dr., Asst. Assoc. In 2009, Associate Professor Dr. He has been appointed to his staff. Şener, who also contributed to the establishment of Gazi University, Faculty of Fine Arts, Department of Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Heritage in 2011, was appointed to the staff of Associate Professor in the same year, and to the Staff of Professor in 2013. Şener A. Ü., Head of the Department (2004-2007), Assistant Director of the School (2005-2010), while working at Başkent Vocational School, Deputy Head of the Department of Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Heritage (2011-2015) and Department of the Department at Gazi University. He assumed the duties of President (2015-2016) and Faculty Dean (2016-2020). He is still working as a lecturer at Ankara Hacı Bayram Veli University, Faculty of Fine Arts, Department of Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Heritage (which was founded by separating from Gazi University on May 18, 2018).

Şener continued his education in the field of Conservation and Restoration in the Department of Conservation of Archaeological Artifacts at the A. De Stefano School in Salemi, Sicily, Italy, between 1989-1992. In 1992, he attended the Restoration and Conservation of Stone Works Specialization Course at the Central Restoration Institute (ICR / Istituto Centrale Per Il Restauro) in Rome. In 1996 and 1997, he participated in the internship and application studies at the Roman Period Wall Painting Research and Restoration Center (CPMR) in Soissons, France, and other conservation centers.

Şener, whose scientific research and project implementation works are "Preservation in archaeological excavations and sites, Protection and Repair of Stone, Wall Painting, Mosaic, Ceramic and Tile (stone group) Artifacts" and Material Use in Medieval Buildings and Conservation of Building Materials". He gives lectures on theory and practice in the subjects of "Preservation and Restoration of Paintings and Mosaic Artifacts". He is a member of Anatolian Art Historians Association (ASTAD), Türkiye Mosaic Research Association (AIEMA-TURKEY) and International Committee for the Conservation of Mosaics (ICCM).
