Filippo Battistoni is Senior Researcher (RTD-B) in Greek History (L-ANT/02) at the University of
Pisa. Prior to taking up service in Pisa, he was a researcher (Wissenschaflticher Referent) at the
Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich and at the Kommission für Alte Geschichte und
Epigraph of the German Archaeological Institute. He was awarded the National Scientific
Qualification as a Professor of II fascia (Associate Professor) in the 2017 round (sector 10D1-
Ancient History).
His research interests include in particular the social and cultural history of the ancient world
(Greece and Rome), financial (especially accounting) and institutional aspects. he is also
concerned with the measurement and perception of time and its social significance (calendars,
chronographs, measuring instruments etc.). He works widely on the epigraphy of Asia Minor,
especially in the region south of the Marmara sea.
Filippo Battistoni's scholarly publications include the monograph "Relatives of the Romans -
Trojan Myth and Diplomacy" (Bari 2010), which is accompanied by numerous articles on the
